I should have made it clearer Andy, the readings show the leak is directly under the stump!

In a nut shell 30inch Ash needs removing with Stump as as its directly over a leaking gas pipe. 30inch dbh bout 75foot tall, only access is down 3 tier zigzag path about 100 feet decent from rd. No chainsaw / stump grinder to be used within 15 foot of leak, (going to have to get a hydraulic chainsaw with powerpack and long pipes for tree and stump removal (carbide coated chain for roots). Just to make things more interesting there are power cables running through the tree.

 

So most of the tree can be cut dismantled with a normal saw.

In theory yes to about 15 ft but will depend on continuous gas readings by national grid operatives, the risk is the saw sucking in gas. The tree dismantle is not too bad despite the power lines, its the entire stump removal that will make the job awkward with the hydraulic saw.

Why the hell cant they just shut off the gas for the duration of the job? Surely if the life of the contractor/ cutter is at risk then this would be a matter of course?

just had the gas board guys there with meters and fire extinguishers and a big fan

though they ran like the wind when we ground a stone haha

Has the GAS board thought of paying a SKILLED prof to stand in the area of the leaking pipe with a leaf blower from an UN-SKILLED arb crew to disapate the fumes?! i'm sure they can find lots as we are all under the same semi pro trade banner.

Can't wait to get to the job site & do my best to kill everyone about:laugh1:
