how close to the magma did you get? it looks really too close but i imagine the scale of it all is bigger than it looks.. i'd be scared of the ropes melting or a bucketful flying past.. could watch it all day though:thumbup1:

....nature at it's rawest. The pics and vid are cool but still nothin like being there-I had a great time but the sulphur wrecks ya gear went through 2 cinchs, 6 crabs 2 ropes and a treemtion harness but who cares, what a trip

:laugh1: Thats quite funny but I guess potentially quite worrying at the same time!

Great pics. Thanks 4 posting! :thumbup1:

It's the coarse grit that wears your gear through as it coats the ropes, the sulphur is just unpleasant most of The time ie breathing. Were probably 400m away from te lake- off back in 6 weeks to try and get closer to film, it just an extaordinary amount of gear required. We took over 1.2 kms o rope on this trip and still not enough, this time we want to take ropetec wraptors to help us ascend quickly from the magma if it gets too hot- it's hard to move in th heat proof gear and also tripods to hold ou ropes

above the scoria, as it's all choppered in the price gets quite high very quickly.

Cheers guys, myself and jono were just there having fun playing with ropes, expedition organizer was geoff mackley, camera guys were James Reynolds, Bradley Ambrose and Daniel lacy. These guys all made a great crew to work with and the trip all the more memorable. We had a 22 hr boat trip to get to the volcano where we saw dolphins, flying fish coming ove the boat, then 2 days in a very tribal village being shown aroun by the village elders then choppered up to the crater. The mag

a was the icing on the cake. Cheers guys.
