Tax Claims for Home Offices

I use a bedroom in my rented house as an office for a few hours a week, and store my gear in a garage on the property. I'd like to claim some of the rent, council tax and power bills back as a business expense. Does anyone else do this? I only want to claim a sensible amount that would stand up to investigation.

£2 for the kettle and 0.2 pence per post takes care of the other £8

I offset about £10 per week in total

You'll need to put in around £400 per week for your brews then. Thats why you don't have time to post..too busy stood at the kettle waiting for it to boil.

Hi Dean, my accountant claims £1700 per year for use of home as an office, I am not sure how this works but she has done it every year for the last five. I think its meant to include all phone, cleaning and electricity bills.

I need to have a word in my accountants ear :cussing:, why is it you always have to ask them if you can claim for this or that and how much.

Cheers for that Tom, I paid quite a hefty lump of tax last year, would be annoying if little things like this have been over looked.
