Road side trees dying?

On driving through my nearest town (Pwllheli) I noticed that all the pollarded (some recently & some years old) sycamores seem to be dying off. Some have lost all the leaves & some just on one side / part. Then on returning home I spot a couple on the road side on the woodland edge that are the same but not as bad. The ones in the wood are fine. Initially I did think that the trees had been poisoned but on seeing the roads side woodland trees I discounted that as they could not have done all the roads in the area. Are they just getting into their autumn clothes early or is there a problem?

I've seen a lot of sycamore trees with brown curled up leaves this year from north Wales to Yorkshire. I know it sounds daft for the northwest of England but I think its down to drought in the early part of summer. I guess that next year they will be back to normal.

I think that with all the recent rain the trees all got the respite they needed JUST in time and will bounce back, a few old beeches and oaks etc have been lost, but that is the way of life.

Ive seen cherries at critical wilt point just before the rains arrived, we shall see next spring what damage was done I guess.
