Climb in, if it's really big then tie into a middle stem and work your way along the inside. If not too big then just climb into one end and work your way along.

If you tie another ladder crossways roughly 3 quarters the way up you will never fall through the hedge.

We once had a colleague working with us who used stilts as part of something else he did and did top & the higher part of the sides for us one a conifer hedge worked a treat !!

99.9% of the time I just climb then and walk ish along the top.

Nice big 3 way ladders for the sides.

I have only came across one hedge job where it needed a mewp, but I haven't looked at every hedge job.:001_smile:

We do alot of big garden hedges and have 2 sets of Sargers A frame ladders, a medium a large. Between them and climbing up into the hedge we haven't come across a hedge that we wouldn't tackle. Other than that a platform, but that isn't always feasible on a domestic job.

I always climb the middle then trim the sides either by step ladder or big a frame ladder.

Have used a mobile scaffold tower before. They are handy and make topping hedges with hedge trimmer so quick and easy its untrue. But on the occasion you cant get the access for it but not that often.
