That is the difference Stevie, your boss didnt have the "alternatives" to hand. This guy usually does.

He is trying to be some kind of ground breaker in technology and runs risks continuously trying to prove his originality.

This tree did work out, but many of his "just watch this" type vids dont. Dont be taken in by this one vid. The few who have passed negative comment about this guys antics have probably seen more than this one fell of his.

Fair play to him, that sort of thing isn't as hard as it looks so long as you fell in the opposite direction to the lean and the tree is quite well balanced. It also helps if the timber is very chewy which Robinia is.

The wedges were pointless though.

i wouldn't have done it over live lines.:001_smile:

A well executed fell IMO.

I would have done it over the lines, exactly as he did, but I would have had them isolated before hand.

Lets face it, if the tree hadent have hung up above the lines it would have been through them anyway.

I dont think I would have used a skid steer as the power on the ropes, I would have used more pulleys and pulled with a big winch.

Standing by the pulling rope was a mistake but hey ho.

We have often pulled trees with a back lean up and then cut through the hinge to let them off sideways, it's not rocket science. But we've never done anything with a lean that far back.

I can understand the negative comments left on this thread, but it is interesting to see unorthodox techniques sometimes!

Having said all of that, I bet this guy has had some bloopers to get a few good vids - I applaud the confidence to try new things.

Compared to some of the felling vids on YouTube from the USA, it's pretty tame really! At least he was wearing some PPE.

Come on Stevie, time for post number 15,000!!!

Trees like in the vid are a fairly common occurrence in line clearance, as do jobs that are far more difficult. I think the job was performed in a rather unsafe manner, and this time luckily no one got hurt and the power is still on.

In Mr. Murphies last video he was working out the procedure used in this video. Of Two trees in the vid. One falls against the back cut and into the back yard they are trying to keep it out of. The second shows him running right where the tree will fall for his escape route and the tree causing much collateral damage that was seemingly unnecessary.

It was a risky but well executed fell, but there was a bucket truck right there. Don't get why he chose the fell option rather than smack in out in lumps from the bucket. when theres that little holding wood to play with and wires why risk it? just cos something can go over in a oner don't mean thats always the best option.

Because this guy like to make video's, which he thinks make him look clever.
