Stump grinding hidden dangers.

I'm sure we're all aware of underground services when grinding and how to best avoid them but what precautions do people take about other unseen dangers, yesterday not for the first time I came across asbestos and luckily managed to stop before I smashed it right up .

 

So should I be wearing a face (Dust) mask when grinding and if I do what level of protection will it give me?

If you feel concerned and want to wear a dust mask then wear one...

The dangers of white asbestos are some what exaggerated, IMO.

 

If its in the ground it will be damp and much dust is unlikely.

 

In the the 60's my father cut up 1000's of sheets of asbestos on a circular saw, with no mask, he would be white by the end of the day. He is now 68 and in rude health.

 

The blue stuff found in old brake shoes was the worst and fortunately is very uncommon.

I find the biggest problem is that i struggle to drink my tea with out spilling it when grinding..................real pain in the ass.
