any bad slips

no,

the not gripping thing, is all to do with they way you tie the vt, if like myself you like it to 'self tend' where as you pull up on the rope above the hitch, the slack falls through the hitch under the ropes tails own weight, the vt is tied as (eg) mys pic shows, tieing it this way, you cant just let go and be sure it will 'catch' you, you need to etither hold the hitch and rope as you lower youre weight on to the syster, or stretch the system up to grip.

you can however tie it similar to a distel, where self tending doesnt really happen, but it will always grab (if i were to wrap one of the legs over the other leg on my system, it would alyays catch, but wouldnt self tend)

im currently using a Lock Jack with ART Rope guide with Poison ivy rope - minly used on bigger work with lots of branch walking and moving round within the crown , for smaller work and line work im using a Distel using Ocean pollyester on a Marlow Chamelion rope and where needed either the Art friction saver or a standard cambium saver , oh and both setups are used with a 5 meter adjustable strop . i tried the vt several times but i really really can not get on with it at all

any bad slips

stood on a banana skin once i nearly broke my hip (being a bit older too)

climbed on a split tail blake hitch for years then went on to a vt hitch climber about a year ago was really strange to start with but once you get the hang of it its great, i would say though that i dont use a vt anymore i use a howard hitch i like it better i also use a standard cambium saver.:thumbup1:
