i'm having a dispute with my boss, over me using my gear. he wants to buy me all new gear(barr some of the more fancy gadgetry), which is fine, but i'm only hear for a year or so. so i think it's in his best interest for me to use mine. but how much of a fee should i expect for using my own gear. i'm fully employed by him, he's already bought some new hiax boots and tree flex pants, and is now willing to get me a new tree motion. thanks but on the verge of madness. how do other companies deal with this situation?

So this kind boss wants to supply you with decent kit, and you want to turn it down??? WHY? Perhaps, as your employer, he is actually doing his job and ensurring your ppe is up to standard, and thinks your worth the investment, albeit in the short term.

A boss offering to buy decent kit, it was like trying to get blood from a stone with mine ex boss. when he did I had to pay part of it. Ended getting my own plus I didn't get any extra pay . So go for it like Andy said he thinks your worth the investment .

Don't be offended but the "madman" part of your user name is very apt in this case ! the guy is giving you good above the minimum required gear, gratitude and respect would be my reaction ..... Ive been on both sides as employee and employer and in my humble opinon you are doing well for someone going to be here for a year ? As an aside in my 11years in eire Ive noticed that most companies have very good gear and take pride in having top notch equipment.

if you are employed, i think they are obliged to provide the neccesary ppe for employees, which will include basic climbing kit, there may also be insurance issues involved.... i am not allowed to use any of my own kit for that reason.

When i was employed, I used my own kit, boss paid for it to be loler'd. There was also an understanding that if any of my kit needed replacing he'd replace it like for like and it would still belong to me for the first replacement, any replacements there after would belong to him.

All to do with insurance and liability. If we employ climbers then we supply the kit. There can be no possibility of confict arrising in the event of an accident or claim.

Take the kit Monkey any climber that uses the kit after you is no climber at all if he is prepared to climb on used kit.

I write it of as a loss and carry on!!!!
