Dog damage to trees

I'm thoroughly sickened by this trend and had to log in to comment. I also felt the need to share the quote by sean via Ian Sinclair on my facebook page. Most of my other 'Need to share' Things just lately have been Pat Condell posts.

 

The idea of scum dogs destroying the germs of a fightback against DED horrifies me.I sit at my kitchen table on seats bodged of elm and beech, inherited from my grandmother, and I'm pushing 50.

 

Also, say hello to Chris of Oakdene trees, I seldom see him but he is an all round top bloke...

I can confirm that chilli will very be a very effective deterent and make any dog think twice about chewing something similar again.

Used to be a shepherd and had a dog that would eat my sandwiches if she ever got the chance. Once she did it 4 days in a row, on the 5th day "my sandwiches" contained chilli powder and cayenne pepper. After that day I could leave any food lying around and she definitely wouldn't touch it!

Should say now that after letting the dog have a really good drink she showed now ill effects at all, but it was quite funny watching a dog trying to spit

 

after the first or second day i think i would have put my lunchbox somewhere where the dog couldnt have got it, i think any dog would pinch food left out

The dog issue is becoming a real headache.

 

On a different but related issue, I had to attend to a lady who was bitten by a dog last week.

A few antiseptic wipes dealt with it, not sure if she went for a jab afterwards as our constabulary then took over the incident.

 

Her (rescue) husky cross is a bit of a nightmare with the other dogs apparently (purely by its presence) which got some guys dog all flustered and it attacked the women.

 

 

Back to the tree damage, not sure what to do to try and protect our young trees tbh. It would be both impractical and unsightly to wrap the trunks.

as a owner of a staffy i would ask everyone to remember its only a shameful small idiot filled group who train these dogs to be bad. Ours is most loving dog ever had.

 

I was brought up around my grandads Staffys and he called them the babysitters!!!

No dog is born wrong its what man does to them that makes them that way

I agree with much of the above, however, David I don't think your damage was caused by dogs, it was more likely casued by the mindless moron chav himself - nothing better to do!

 

I live on a quite moddle class estate in Kent, and this happened to about 20 trees on the green outside my front door. I asked around, but guess what? No-one saw a thing!!

 

Things that might help, are some explanation to these idiots at school about the planet, global warming, emissions and the good that trees do. Etc, etc.

Also, Pitbulls and anything that is closely resembling one, or any other type of fighting dog should be put down.

 

A couple of years ago I was working in Bethnal Green, London doing a garden clearance and some tree pruning. The garden backed on to the local church yard and there was not side acess to the house. Spoke to the Church - permission granted to drop bagged rubbish over the wall, and drag out via the gates.

Anyway, threw a load of bags over the wall and just about to jump down with them, when a Pitbull in full leather harness charged up. The animal was absolutely psychopathic! The drug dealer who owned it had chained the gate into the wall church yard to stop anyone getting in. If anyone had entered or got in to the chaurch yard the dog would have ripped them to pieces, it was scary, seriously. Animals like that should be destroyed, preferably along with their owners!!

Deed not the breed! There is no such thing as a bad dog if it has been socialised and raised / trained correctly. I own a Staffie, I have owned many Staffies. The RSPCA and many vets say they are the best family dogs you can have.

 

The Chavs buy / steal them because of the way they look and train them based on their terrier based determination.

 

I have has mothers grab their children and folk cross the street when I am out and about with a dog under close control at heel. Comments like yours makes my blood boil.

An ever increasing problem it seems.....here in Bristol much the same. What to do? pfffff not sure. Perhaps a step up in the education of children in schools as to the importance and benefits of trees. Get to the kids whilst they are young so they grow up respecting THEIR trees. May go some way in reducing dog damage, fires in hollow trees and graffiti at a later date?

I'm realy loath to fence these trees off or even wrap them in chestnut pailing, as it will look pants.

 

I think we may give the chilli powder treatment a go in the short term and see how that goes.

I havent read through every single page of this thread, so sorry if this has been mentioned, but when i was on the contract for Southwark Council, I had to apply a bucket of 'dog grease' to some park trees. Any idea what this is, or perhaps something you might want to investigate?

 

It was absolutely disgusting, I can tell you that much Smelt like it was made out of the dogs they couldn't rehome
