Got both laptop and desktop. If its ur only pc go with desktop.

 

I tend to just keep uprading the components and Scan are unbeatable for this, they also know what they are talking about on support. I have not bought a full system off them but they do supply them. A bunus is that anything over £300 they have 9 a month int free option.

Build you own mate its alot easier thats what i did

as long as you have an operatin disk Ie windows xp or vista etc

Desktop will be cheaper. Plus much easier to upgrade and fix. Bigger screens and speakers, proper keyboard. I know nothing about self build, but know many people who have built very high spec machines for very little money by this route. Dell make very good and affordable desktops. I can't vouch for after sales service. I have two desktops and I had both made for me. Previous to that, I went to PC world of pain. Never again! Attach it to a generator and put the whole lot in a wheel barrow.

even a pc for £300 is half decent these days. my pc is 3 years old now and no doubt a £300 pc would be of higher spec with the way technology moves. im due for a big upgrade soon.

I've thought of building my own, but it seems all the parts add up to more than a whole system would cost. Does this sound like value for money?

By the way, If you divide all those numbers by 4, that's roughly what I've got at the moment..the processor runs at about 750 MHz, there's 256 Mb RAM, and the hard disc is 6Gb

good system, spend the extra from the Hard-drive on getting a mobile one, so you can back files up on it. If you do business paperwork on the PC that way if one dies you have the other, i have learnt this from bitter experiance many times

 

building your own is only a real option if your going for very high spec top end parts

That's a good idea, charlie, and I've already got one, a 200Gb external hard drive by freecom. I back the important stuff up onto that.
