big tops and interesting cuts

am i right in thinking the gob was cut, then bored through to create hinge, then the last cut low for some reason i cant work out yet, they jump because the gobs have closed up..?

 

No, the bottom cut is the only back cut (I think) in effect there is no hinge.

No me neither but the more you think about it the more it works. Same principle as a dogs tooth.

 

exactly, Ihave seen a vid of that technique b4 and used it, the dog tooth was developed for forestry use and minimum wastage, that technique requires felling higher so no good for forestry but fine for us.:001_smile:

I'm confused by it. A shallow gob and normal back cut would done the same thing. If he was worried bout tearing he could use kurf cuts. If he was worried bout barbers chair then a dogs tooth? Is there a bigger picture I'm missing?
