saw these tadpole acting like ants

Rob,

Last week, high up in the Austrian Alps, there were two shallow ponds with lots of small tadpoles of the Alpine salamander (Salamandra atra). Last year I met two adults, one of which continuously was climbing up my shoes, because it was the only warm and dry spot in the wet grasslands surrounding us :001_smile: .

Old wasp nest I came across today.

What amazing structures they truly are

The struts spacing the floors of the nest are so cool

Fantastic engineering :001_cool:

.

lovely tensile triangles in the struts:thumbup1:

wait till you get a view of a bumbles nest, columns made of wax and pollen, smell and look like candy as they layer different colours of pollen as the seasons flowers change. it broke my heart when i realised what i had done having already done the damage.

this is what it means to feel natural empathy, by the way.
