If you have a gap between living stools, do you bury and/or nick the middle of a pleacher to try and get new growth in the gap?

Yeah always put a few nicks in them to promote a bit of growth,this one will also have a few hawthorn quicks put in it to strengthen it up

Yeah, I've found a few sprouts starting on a hawthorn hedge I laid back in October.

 

I actually saw a primrose out the other day. I expect there'll be a February arctic blast along to send the early risers back to sleep again.
