My paps was lucky enough to go half way up a chimney with him, he came to do work on chimney of the mill my dad worked at and asked if anyone wanted to come up with him. got half way up n said that will do haha, said he was a proper chap

the sides will always are square not round, not going to get dirty or worn and when coming down there is no chance of the guy above standing on your fingers. If you have ever watched a steeple jack crew go up and down ladders it would blow you away, makes us lot seem like a bunch of girls.

 

when i used to work on the coal boats we would climb up and down 100feet ladders in the dark holding your shovel in 1 arm, ha ha it was so dodgey but fear gave you one hell of a grip and coal dust is very slippy.:sneaky2::biggrin:

i met him in a local pub to me when he was working on a museum chimney herer in cambridge, i saw a letter that he wrote on completing the work there his hand writing so neat

 

He was a trained calligrapher, so he told me.

The man, the legend. I love the seemless narration all the way up - 50 years old and hardly out of puff - I'd be knackered even if my twitchy ring would allow me to get started, which when faed with the overhang would undoubtedly give up. Maybe that's another reason to hold the sides of the ladders...
