The Poplar Myth

Once again I saw someone mention on a thread that Poplar is rubbish as firewood. I am processing loads of it at the moment and also have a quantity that has been seasoning for just six months over winter. With drooping shoulders thinking that I was wasting my time I thought I had better test it … its b***dy fantastic and that’s just after six months.

are those eucalyptus logs you've got seasoning on the lower right hand side? how do you find em to burn?

Yes but they have only just been cut so they are just for ornamental purpose for the next six months ... I have never actually burnt any but I have some sitting next to another stove to try in a couple of weeks.

I think "both are meant to burn" is a bit loose terminology. matchsticks are meant to ignite something and be put straight out. Coffins aren't burnt to warm the cremetorium are they. Dried poplar does burn but so does a wheelie bin. Haha. I would always say "poplar is certainly not one of the best burning timbers for warmth" rather than "poplars crap firewood".
