Its the lowering device Reg.I have always called it a Hobbs Block.Looks like this.

 

I didn't know Hobbs made a Pulley Block.But I see they do.

That one does look smaller than the one I used to use.

The Drum on the model I used was kind of flanged or at least rounded.

We've been using the H2 for a few years, nice & simple to use but by far the best ever operator was old Shrekie here.

 

Have to say that I had a good look at the RC 3002 at Capel over the weekend and was duly impressed with it in the flesh.

Not suprised they flew off justins table.

Regs device does look good.

If one of the drums could wind then I would buy one.

I need a sturdy device some cranking power.I have used the GRCS but do not think the extra cost suits our style of work.

I can't recommend it highly enough, RU in a rush for it? If not you're more thn welcome to have a play with mine sometime if you're around, Stevie mentioned you had rellies in this part of the world? That first pic is weird BTW mine is an H2 like the second one.

Mike, they are indeed two different products, although I have also seen the LD incorrectly refered to as a block on retailers websites even though it does not incorporate a block of any kind. The Hobbs Block really set the standard when it first came out and some still swear by it as the best around today, you can still get them through Don Blair:

I had the H2 Lowering device for a year, sold it not long ago through Arbtalk; sorry you missed out. Great tool made by a Genuine tree man (Ken Johnson) in every sense.
