Eucalyptus trees dying ?

Don't assume just because the leaves brown off and drop that the tree is dead. They are quite capable of throwing new shoots out of the trunk and stems (along the entire length) during the next growing season. Happens quite often here to an avenue of them either side of the State Highway.

Thanks for that. It seems odd though that the lower branches are more distressed than the upper ones. At around 50ft he's biggish and I'm drawn to pollarding.

Any further thoughts much appreciated...

I have had the same problem with my Eucalyptus. She is about 45-50ft and the crown and lower branches are dead. Should I just lop them off. I was searching on the internet for problems with these trees and found this forum.

I was once a qualified tree surgeon but left the trade 15 years ago. Never worked on a eucalyptus before, and was very attached to this one. Such a shame. Any suggestions on how to best save it much appreciated.

She is sprouting in places.

But some of the sprouts higher up are dying back as well.

I saw a euc yesterday that had large splits in the bark and it appeared to be dead. It still had moisture in the trunk though. A lot of the eucs I have took down over the past few years seem to be sodden with water In the trunks.

Hmmmmmm. Stranger and stranger.
