Could would it be possible for the guys at DMM/treemagineers to produce a smaller carabiner

There are practical design limitations to the size of carabiners. The 3 way gate has to be a certain length in order to incorporate the 3 way closing features and the spring that operates it.

The DMM Sentinel is at the cutting edge of small biner technology, perhaps someone will come up with something smaller in the future, who knows?

take your rope to a show and just tell someone who splices at the stands what the deal is with your rope and they will splice it for you be aware it will cost more than a splice done on a new rope, not sure though as im not a splicer. the biner thing is as peter said and i dont think the TM or DMM will design a biner because you dont want a rope splice done or cant get one done. like some one else said if you put it in the middle hole and do a fishermans knot you will be fine i had to use it for a week and found it fine, dont waste time with a bowline just do a fishermans.

good luck though with it, see if you ring some companies you could send yourrope to them to get a splice in it.

I'm pretty sure i'm not gonna fall(slide) any further than 5-10cm with this issue so its not a major, just a little annoying.

Things do seem to be getting smaller these days ay, think i'll have a splice by then though.

I'm probably due a new rope pretty soon anyway, but my list is building fast....not sure if the boss will be too keen :glare:

  • 3 weeks later...

Instead of a smaller carabiner could they produce a HC which is possible to tie directly into the top hole like the new pinto's? this would work and allow those without a splice to use a HC with the same peace of mind as those with!
