I.S.A exam at capel 24th April-advice

Recommended Posts

It’s a tad lower than tech cert BUT unlike all the other qualifications certification carries a CPD requirement, if you don’t submit evidence of continuing professional development (and pay a small fee) the certification expires.

It scores well because it particularly suited to home study and is internationally recognised.

Certification - Arborist Certification :: ISA Certified Arborists :: ISA UK&I Chapter

Sounds cool, as I maintain CPD as a matter of course anyway, might be a good intermediate qual for me in the short term, fill the gap to being fully qualled when i finish my course.

The best advise I can give is pay particular attention to Tree Fertilisation, i.e. don’t just skip through that section in the study guide (its not so big over here but much bigger over in the states). That was the only module that caught me out and had to do the re-sit at Capel – which wasn’t so bad as that’s how I discovered the show. :001_smile:

you wont do! the isa are notoriously unhelpful for an organisation who are supposed to care!!

try the online shop,

or try somewhere like sherriltree.com or treesource.

maybe even honeybros at a long shot?

or just ring the chapter office, and speak to the very unhelpful people on the other end.

i tried the course and test last year, its nothing to write home about!

Sounds like you caught Jean on a bad day. Jean and Mac have always been friendly and helpful on the other end of the phone and in person.

Wouldnt say that they, or the ISA are notoriously unhelpful

Hi all,

The ISA Certified Arborist sits in the current (but defunct) NQF (National Qualifications Framework...being change to the Qualifications and Credits Framework....don't ask...ME!) at 'level 2', as does RFS Cert. Arb. & City & Guilds Arb, i.e. it's generally recognised as a craftsman qualification. The Tech Cert Arb, as with ND Arb, is currently level 3.

However there are those who believe, in part because of the strict CPD/CEU requirement, that it should be 'higher' than level 2, or at least unofficially recognised as such in the eyes of an employer.

I previously studied the 'study guide', as a working arborist (YES I did once work..properly) and found it a very useful process although I never did the exams...can't remember why tho (that'll be the dementia again!)

To be quite honest Hamadryad I'm not sure as to how much benefit this qual will be for you given your desire to enter the world of arb consultancy...stick to your FdSc Arb I'd say (NOT to undermine the ISA Cert Arb, it's a great qual for the progressive arborist, but a case of "horse for courses" I reckon n this one probably won't go the distance for you.)

Cheers..

Paul
