Set your VT up on AP HC and leave it on your line man. Mines been there for over 6 months.

8-10 hours a day? VT (ok, Ropeguide is a must), makes you so quick Rich and I usually knock a days climbing out in 8-10 minutes. We then spend the rest of the day smoking opium and interviewing porn actresses.

Another way to do it so you dont have to tend is to have a short strop from the harness to the first krab so you pull from under the hitch climber, making it similar to climbing on a lockjack.

This sounds interesting. Is this from experience or speculation?

This is a video of i believe Tom D from arbtalk, using said method mentioned by Mick right at the beginning of the video.

I could not get on with the VT it was a bit temperamental for me, but i did loved the climbing style (the hand over hand) so i tried other hitches and settled on a howard hitch.

i find i dont need to set it as much as the VT and it bites everytime.

As Rich says you have to move with the times or at least try these techniques as some are defiantly beneficial to your day to day workings.
