I have been to most of the interviews i have had with a collar and tie. no suit.

seams to be a halfway point it shows you have made the effort but not OTT

If 2 people come to me for an interview one had T-shirt and jeans the other a collar and tie i would be more impressed with the effort, i would think this person is concerned that he looks right and that is good for company image

Most will just ask you for a trial and thats the interview itself they can see within a few mins how you are going to be .

. I did go for an interview the other day for a larger company . i had come stright off the tools with no time to clean up so it was full PPE and Muddy hands and woodchips the lot . Well in my book at least like this they can see you are serious and happy to graft and dont mind getting dirty and down to buisness.

judge it by location, surely thats purdy obvious, if its an interview for a big company and youve gotta go to an office, dress for the office, i'm no a suit man myself, but clean smart, pressed shirt, same for the trousers, belt matching the tone of shoes and coat, brown leather is my prefered choice. if the interview is in the nature of meet me on site somewhere, turn up in your work clobber, but wear summit reasonable, not that battered old shirt that reads 'same s--- different day' have your ppe and tackle with you.
