Hama, could you take a physically fit and keen chap from the job centre, with no academic qualifications or consistant schooling and train him into an arborist, within 5 years with a bit of profffesional input regardign NPTC tickets etc?

Much easier and quicker to take a physically fit arborist, and turn him into a keen chap in the job centre:biggrin:

I am glad i could be of service.

You arent being asked to accept, thats your choice, and you may well be right, maybe I am wrong, certainly seems the "legal" definanition is in line with your views rupe.:sneaky2:

I'm sure its not a "legal" term. But in the general sheme of things how important do you think tree loppers are?

In a 1-3 scale (un skilled, semi skilled or skilled) taking into account all trades and proffessions in the world, I think we are doing well to scrape upto number 2!

We are, after all, only cutting some trees!

I think one of the main points being missed in this debate is natural aptitude.

I would argue all the very good climbers I have known will have had an inherent ability, a gift if you prefer.

I think all the best people in any field have an inbuilt ability that takes them above and beyond their training.
