Some interesting thorghts there, I think after recent events we may see the HSE chainging the rules for us all, What is really needed is design change in the top handled saw so there is a opperational brake when used one handed during kickback.

I hardly ever use my saw one-handed, and I bollock my lads if I see them doing the same. Good positioning and not rushing is the key. Almost any part of a tree can be got to with some applied thinking and a level head…

I use mine one handed most of the time.

I'd say 50%

If you were to position yourself to do a two handed step cut on evry cut our times would double along with the price.

I have just taken down a large silver birch in 20 minutes, without rushing and without lowering.

Getting a drop zone and cutting branches so they land in that zone, some with a helping hand.

All done in a safe manner, no risk taking. :icon14:

I sometimes forget what it's like in the real world of arboriculture. Being a local authority, safety comes before price..

I know what you mean John, LA can be too fussy.

I'm a bit more fussy when it comes to employers using things inappropriately. It would be a case of, if I injure myself, theres only me to blame. If one of the groundies injure themselves, I'm still to blame. :icon14:

If they were going to be band from sale i would buy 15 or 20,so i would have enough to see me out

Me too. Top handles are way safer in a tree, I can't see why they would want to ban them. Its only when you use them on the ground that they become dangerous. I know three people with scars on their left forearms from using 020's on the ground.
