Hamas big reduction/pruning thread!

reading the new BS 3998 and came across this good little piece of advice=

 

Due to its potentially negative effects, crown reduction should not

usually be carried out in addition to other crown pruning operations,

which would add to the amount of wounding and leaf loss.

NOTE 1 Although crown reduction should not be combined with

systematic crown thinning, it often entails some degree of thinning due

to the selective removal of branches at their points of origin.

 

 

 

 

Hama= so next time you get handed a spec that advises a thinning as well as a reduction, like ive ALWAYS maintained its BS and not in a good way! so refuse to do it.

So when I used to get a job spec that says 30% reduction and 20% thin of what is left...

 

Your now telling me this is wrong and not good practice? ;)

 

yep, thats EXACTLY what I am saying, no matter who specifies it!

 

thinning a tree that is being reduced is like wearing a belt and then adding braces:biggrin:
