Thanks Squaredy.  The cut wood has a red tinge to it as claimed by the owner and it's softwood; Douglas makes perfect sense.  There was a slight smell to the timber when cut despite its age so again an indicator of Douglas surely.

Thanks all; can't wait to break the news re the valuable tropical hardwood!

@Squaredy any thoughts on value?  The piece of string is 'that' long!

Sale will be down to matey; I'm not getting involved!

As a couple of beams, not worth much at all after transport, unless you can find someone local who wants it.
We used to re saw lots of Douglas and Pitch pine from demolition jobs, usually old Mills from all over Lancashire.
Delivered in by the artic load though.
There is a guy in West Sussex, (Woodlouse Industries on Instagram) who might take them off your hands, I would be surprised if the value wiped their own arse though.
Bonne chance 👍

It looks as if there is rot in one of them which will affect the value.  If I milled them for a customer I would charge probably £30 per cubic foot.  Shorter beams would be less; I charge a premium for long beams.

But as it is unlikely they will exactly match anyone’s need the seller will have to be realistic.  If he gets £20 per cube he should be happy.

Wills-mill is Billingshurst way isn't he. I think I spoke to him once; he said how he loved big Lawsons and then when I offered him some he said he had no room 🤣

As I said above I'll not get involved with any marketing but will suggest FB Marketplace and Squaredy's guesstimate at value.

Thanks again
