Hi,

I have a collection of chains building up that need sharpening, and it may take me some time by hand.

I was considering buying an Oregon Bench Sharpener.

The reviews appear pretty good, and I wondered if anyone has used them here.

Thanks

They work well but be careful of heat build up blueing chains. Peck at it, keep your stone clean. Once you understand the settings it’s easy to do a decent job.

i use a cbn wheel and waster mist cooling which is pretty much ultimate if you want to spend another £150.

the grinder with the automatic clamp is well worth spending more money on, saves a lot of repetition.

lol just a Chinese airline powered mist nozzle like you’d use on a lathe.

Have you ever thought about sharpening them as and when required on the saw by hand? It’s a 5 - 10 minute job🤔

Bollocks to that electric one every time unless on the job.

I've brought a lidl one, just for really crap chains, where you wear out files Trying to get a chain right.

However I'm with Dan blocker, ex boss used to bench sharpen chains, they were never as good as me filing by eye and also the chains producing the perfect shaving

I use one for milling chains.

I want the chains the same so you don’t get a bad cut with loads of cutter marks on boards.

They work well , I usually brush a bit of oil on each cutter to keep them cooler and don’t go heavy pulling it in to the cutter and back it off two three times.. it’s worth the effort for milling but not faster sharpening and not as good for getting a fast cutting chain with deep gullets for felling and cross cutting work.
