Working for a bigger outfit in domestic/commercial arb at the start of your career can also pay off, so long as they're any good. You will learn some tips from everyone, which helps. It's generally not that well paid but will provide you a springboard to be sought-after by smaller firms, thus making filling in a diary easier.

Utility work might not be the prettiest in terms of arboriculture but you will get most of the skills you need from it, and a wage, so that's a good shout.

Keep looking for smaller outfits too, that's how I got into arb, sometimes you find one at just the right time.

Good luck mate.

I wanted to see how resilient he are , it’s important  in manual labour sector, in my opinion, so he proofed he is , that increases his chances to find  what he looking for. We all seen some snow flakes flying around , most of them never comeback there cause they had no chance! I am from military background as well , after Army usually two thing to consider You are to bossy or not initiative enough  , both things can have negative impact , at least it was my problem ….. still is!

Sparky translates:

"It is likely inexperience on the tools, and a historical vocational lack of experience in tree work which are hampering your chances of employment, in my opinion. How old are you?"

It is the quietest time of the year for Arb work , it nearly always is ......also I know other trades that are pretty quiet as well , I did a bathroom refit in March at home and had no problems getting a plumber or electrician at quite short notice who commented that it was pretty quiet on the work front ...I was pretty quiet , that is why l  decided to do  the bathroom ....

Also if this financial situation deteriorates it will show domestic arb is recession prone, rail or utility as close to recession proof as you can get.

I think the only issue with a bigger outfit is they will promise to let you climb, it might take a while for them to get round to it.
