Edit: come to think of it, I'm actually removing a long row of birch and topping two more of the same in a couple of weeks time... not sure what you'd pay for transport from the west coast of Ireland though!

I've made fascines in the past, mostly as a by product from over stood hazel coppice restoration some for use on my own property but the bulk were for Sussex Wildlife Trust for their projects local to me.

Can't keep up sometimes! The other week it was dead hedges (had another go, circular around an old trampoline base, boys did fire pit in the middle and mallows off that)... so Fascines next then.

Ha!  Nothing new about fascines, it's a Roman (Latin) word so would imagine the Roman civil engineers would be well familiar with them.  Interestingly the word Fascist is derived from the term as the Italian Fascist party used an image of a bundle of sticks as their symbol.

Do they reduce erosion much? I've got a bit of stream bank where the gabions are collapsing, wonder if some brushwood could help hold it all together without much expense.

It was a "united we stand , divided we fall" message . I think it was Mussolini that picked up a stick and broke it and then picked up a bunch and showed the crowd he couldn't break the bundle,
