You’re right Eggs, it doesn’t make sense, but the cobbler isn’t conning you.

It’s a skilled job.

Economies of scale when the originals are soled in a factory with thousands of other pairs.

Sneaked one over me again!

I understand mate, I do like to repair, reuse, but it becomes uneconomical at times.

It would also be a recycled car tyre which I suspect much more durable. (I started resoling some trainers with a bike tyre, then life got in the way so paused that project - it was a 'can it be done' job)
