Aliexpress, Alibaba and the like are awash with copies if you search for drill powered ascenders. Never ordered from those websites so don't know if I have to order a shipping container load to get those prices.

I'd find one useful for the first 5 or 6 metres of the trees here in Ireland, less useful for the final 2 or 3.

30 feet (9 metres ish) was about the number I plucked out of the air for a size it might be worth putting a powered ascender on for (as a starting point at least - there are plenty of 150 foot trees where one wouldn't do you any good). I do get how it seems faffy and weak for trees that are only say 45 feet but we need to get into the habit of being lazier in this industry. Sod all this going home tired and not being able to pick up a pint without your forearms cramping. People should get back in the door with more energy than they had when they got to work and then use it to **************** the wife so she can't walk.

Looks like China's disregard for copyright means that other companies are producing the same device for £3-400 now.

 

It's not the same device though. It's a device made by people who don't care if it breaks and paralyses you.

I am playing devil's advocate to an extent btw. China CAN make good stuff. And I do know you'd run a prussik above either.

The 9 there that didn't comply with the thumb up directive haven't been seen since though, except orange helmet who appears weekly on the news from a concrete room to say he's being looked after very well and chooses not to contact his mother.
