Nice vid.

Regarding the directional gobs…. How would you have done it?  I would have thought they were pretty obvious.

I use gobs quite a lot to steer limbs.  Don’t often use a GRCS I just pretension with a fat Groundy or two and then use that to hold the limb and let the hinge and gravity do the hard work.

Depends on what sort of wood, how well hinges are working, how well just leaving a rippy cheese string bit on the bottom corner works as a hinge etc. And to an extent what saw I have to hand at the time and what I can reach from a safe spot/good work position. I generally try to make as few cuts as possible and I especially avoid having to cut and chuck 18" stubs to clean up. I have the GRCS on for most trees anyway so I might as well use it if it means I can do a nice flush cut or just have a piece come off calmly. Luxury rigging. So yeah, downwards and sideways ones, cheese string if I can get away with it. For more deliberate upwards and upwards diagonal ones, usually top gobs right against the trunk.

I've seen a few of that guy's videos. The thing I like about him is that he makes mistakes and shows them, and also doesn't seem to be a massive know it all.

He also seems pretty calm and relaxed.

Basically the opposite of me in a tree.

You're being mean to your fat groundies. Probably hurts their feelings more than you realise.

💔

My old, fat Groundy was a strongman.

I don’t think I could have hurt him if I tried.

He was like a human Avant.
