A pic of our very handsome and improving (in health) boy Bramble. He is on the mend after having a very bad bout of Pneumonia. We almost lost him as his temp was 105F (about 41C) and his breathing was laboured yet shallow. He spent a week in the vets on IV Fluid and AB. He is now eating like a horse and getting stronger each day. And the last pic is of son (Floyd now 6 months), father (Bramble) and Brambles Great Grandad Charlie.

 

Glad he's on the mend Matt.

Floyd will potentially be working the final week of the season (less birds for him to go mad about), Bramble will hopefully be out mid December or sooner, Bracken is out already and Charlie might be out on the smaller farm shoots as we can leave him in the back if he is pooped after two drives.

I would never let a dog as young as Floyd in mate, it might ruin him, and you know that.

 

I'm starting to itch down here, we are starting on the 29th, but Dutchie has been asked for on a day on the 28th. She's keen to do both.

We've taken him past a Pheasant pen with 2000 pheasants and he knew they were there but didn't want to chase them which is a good sign (of sorts) and we took him to a local clay shoot and had him within 100 metres of gunshots before we had to stop. We shall try him at 75 metres in a month or two then keep getting progressively closer until we are next to the gun but that wont be until he is 10 months minimum. Our 5 years olds we're on their first day at 9 months. It was a bit tentative to say the least but it was a mini driven with only a few birds milling around as opposed to 1500 birds milling around the front of a drive.

i'd love to take brook on a shoot, she loves the hunt, swims, points and rushes them out - must be genetic:001_smile:

Best go beating without you dog first for a bit. You'll get to know the right people and how it all works. Then ask the keeper (VERY) nicely if he would mind having a look at her to make sure she isn't totally mental (Although - cocker). Then see what he says.

 

Obedience is vital on a shoot, if she runs in at the wrong moment she could well ruin a drive, and you probably won't be invited back.
