In Soctland the Government has just agreed to a change to teh rules about woodburners and beoeat heating systems.

A couple of years ago it became a requirement of new building warrant applicaitons that direct emission heating systems (basically, gas, coal and oil boilers) will no longer be acceptable. This included woodburning and peat burning systems. But as of last month after a consultaiton it has agreed to change the rules for wood and peat, allowing these. Initially the case was argued for rural and island communities, but the change applies now the the whole country.

I was reading that a lot of the "science" regarding particulates in the smoke from woodturning which was driving these bans has now been disproved.

Probably because all forms of combustion produces PM particles.

Even gas produces them, maybe reality has finally bitten the SNP but I'm sceptical of that.

Regulations restricting the use of polluting heating systems came into force in April and sparked...

There’s a catch if I’m not mistaken, oil and gas boilers are still prohibited for new builds. The push for the heat pumps is still driven by the lunatics. Last winter we were without power on a number of occasions once for 4 days. No hassle with propane for cooking a log burner and a back up generator but to be reliant 100% on electricity for everything including your car up here isn’t a wise move.

Certainly not surprised.

Definitely raises questions about how they can allow them and also keep the air sealed envelope.

Direct air supply to the stove.

Yes I know about room sealed stoves.

But new houses have quite strict air tightness rules, so maybe it's a underhanded way of making them illegal without the paperwork.

As a room sealed needs both an air inlet and a flue.
