The tax is what the tax is... I feel we should probably pay a bit more anyway,

A few years ago, a couple of affable young things from the Taxpayers' Alliance stood on a street in London and asked people whether taxes should be higher or lower. At the end of the questions, those who said higher were presented with an ipad that they could type their bank details into to make a donation to the government. Guess how many people actually had to get off all of a sudden.

What a crock of shit SP, lecturing people on doing the basics and throwing fantasy numbers around just doesn’t reflect the reality of the situation. My day rate for milling is at the point where people will either think twice or not bother, sticking extra on will probably tip a good few off the wrong end of that line, mileage rates have absolutely zero impact, you self employed or run a business?

Your numbers, 7 year old motor, 107k, or about 15k miles a year, works out to be 20 or 30p a mile . If my sums are a fantasy, they are done off the numbers you suggested.

And what can your customers afford... going back to your numbers, you've suggested previously that your wage is about £120k, I'd estimate for that you'd need to be taking closer to £160 to cover taxes, expenses, equipment (loans, maintenance, replacements), training, accountancy, holidays, pensions, and everything else... just for you. £1000 a day. Add to you - checking numbers above - 2 passengers on your jobs, £300 daily wage - specialist stuff I am guessing, wouldn't get out of bed for any less, needs £450 for the business, makes about £1700 day rate for your team... and your customers cannot afford an extra £15? I'm not believing that.

That’s the thing Peds.

What will you buy instead?

Haven't looked but this thread suggests there will be loads of cheap double cabs flooding the market any day soon

Yeah. It wouldn't suck quite as bad if you felt your money was being spent a little more responsibly. Maybe the currently French resident members wouldn't agree with me (or maybe they will? Who knows...) but I didn't really mind paying taxes quite so much when I was there, as it was clearly visible pretty much all around my particular corner of France. It felt like you were getting good value.

Doesn't really sit that way with me here in Ireland. Probably the same in the UK too.

True, unfortunately importing them from the UK to Eire makes it not such a good deal, which is a shame. There's a few options here, anyway.

Presumably if you fly here and then drive one back, you get hit with some tax or other. What about if you buy a ****************ed one in Ireland and change the plates on the ferry...

Steady on Dave, me first.

Steven, answer the £1m chipper question first.

I’m not taking sides, you and Johnson never agree, I’ve had rows with both of you before, but like to think I’m pretty unbiased.

Sometimes, just sometimes, someone says something that makes you revaluate your position and see their point of view.

No shame in it, you know I value your opinion.
