Nearly half of Reform’s donations in 2024 came from fossil fuel investors and climate deniers. No wonder the party wants to bin net zero, writes Harriet Williamson.

The body language of the forced participants in the background was embarrassing. Public speaking ain’t easy but that performance from Reeves was cringeworthy. The parallel reality where she and the Labour front bench lives must be some place.

All these 6th form debating types should have had a module where they were forced to speak to a baying mob, suppose they'll get practices when they close the steel works and such and we're all on food stamps.

Be a nice change from the rooms of clapping union seals.

You must have gone to an odd 6th form institution Gareth. The only debating that goes on in regular 6th forms is of the mass-debating type.

How many normal people are interested in political debate at age 16?

It's 2025 "normal people" are becoming a feckin' endangered species.

True enough. We're getting herded into ever more different genres. Like music, or bikes, or coffee.

But, were you interested in political debate at age 16?

You're aware it's phrase used to describe a certain sort of labour aficionado type ?.

Millitwat, Starmer, Corbyn etc etc.

They must have all been in a club, in the old days the nutters atleast had sandwich boards.

Let's put it another way, explain how they all talk, argue, describe and speak in that weirdo almost robotic fashion with zero ability to resonate or even interact with anyone of an opposing viewpoint?.

At 16 I wasn't a card carrying type, but I new the differences.

I don't tend to listen to them talk, it's mainly guff. It's probably just part of the malaise of most modern day career politicians.

Ah you mean like the whole trope of calling anyone with an opposing viewpoint right wing/racist/etc etc continues?.

Personally 6th form debater is and continues to be a bloody accurate description of the labour party as a whole.

Maybe if they upped their game and actually engaged and communicated with the general public without it feeling like a primary school assembly, that phrase may fall out of use.

But that'll probably never happen in either of our combined lifetimes.
