Never cut through a thick bramble stem with some loppers eh?   Princess.

I removed a patch with slash hook and loppers, never grew back to any extent.

I wouldn't want to do any significant area though.

Me neither.

Luckily the original poster only has a little plot of land with a couple of patches of brambles for his limited budget to deal with.

A few more details:

- I would prefer battery powered, gasoline would be 2nd choice and cable is not an option.

- Land is about 0.5ha big (not all overgrown of course but there are several areas on the land with large bramble bushes).

- Land is not very even, quite a few ditches and (shallow) slopes.

- Terrain is on the rockier side.

- Some of the brambles are quite mature ie. have thicker stems.

Yeah, given what percentage of that 1.25 acres is brambles, and how much free time I've got over the next few months, I'd just be chipping away it with the hook and loppers in whatever time I had, like I did with my 1.5 acres when we bought it.

Not a big job, cheaper than buying anything fancy in, keeps you fit.

I tried a slash hook and loppers few times is pretty ineffective against a dense 10ft high bramble mass

Even when you manage to cut all stems which is difficult.... u still have a mass of cut  bramble to deal with - best is to chuck them on a bonfire.

The brushcutter mulch head reduces such volume.

The dead bramble  under storey can also burn well in situ  especially with a back pack  leaf blower assitance or the right wind direction but this is not advisable as you can quickly get an impressively fun inferno! 😉

0.5h is 1.2 acres not that a small an area too lop.....

OP has gone i think so will always be a mystery what has happenned to this negelected paddock......

I would assume we weren’t talking hundreds, just ‘some’.

Who knows…

No offence dude, but it sounds like your slash hook wasn't lubricated with enough elbow grease 😉

The leaf blower inferno sounds like the cheapest, easiest, most effective, and most fun technique though!

I used to walk naked backwards into a bramble patch, open my buttocks, close them over a few stems of bramble, clench tightly, then run out as fast as I could.

Worked great, till the spoilsports taking their grandchildren blackberry picking called the police.

Ive never got the slasher  to cut as impressively as in this classic vid for example

I reckon scythe with a ditch blade would be the tool for the job if going down the  hand tool root over a slasher

Reasoning is blade is at a the right angle offset for cutting the stems compared to the handle unlike with a   slasher....
