Hi everyone,

new to this site.

i am sure this has been spoken about before however I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out on this one.
I have my own company and the majority of my work is on a big private estate the owner also has one down the road I work on. I use my truck for towing machinery around and all the things in between etc. do not charge them for the use of my truck.
can anyone please help me with a kind of average day rate for the use of my vehicle. So I can start charging them as it is just wasting into my wages. I have a Ford ranger.

many thanks

corey

Was going to say, HMRC rate is the expected fuel + depreciation + maintenance cost per mile - expenses - so a minimum rate. Short trips towing around an estate will be more expensive than a 200 mile motorway journey of course

As a starting point you can hire a Ranger for about £25/day.

Then HMRC guidelines are 45p/mile.

Just on the 45p per mile for hmrc. How many years has that been set? At least 25 years, to my knowledge.  Surely that's due an increase.

Realistically how many miles are we talking about per day, is it better to just increase the day rate than trying to calculate the mileage and making your billing sound too complicated or arsey ?.

£20 a day providing it's not off the estate or something equally simple?.

Since I was a young man Con, certainly many, many years!

HMRC won’t increase it unless there is a direct and instant benefit to them I presume, otherwise they would have done it already.

I would say £1 a mile for local

The problem might be trying to get this money out of them if they're used to getting it for free

Aye, people get used to taking a lend and don’t like it when you kill their golden goose.

Just be professional and present the monetary facts.

Blame it on your insurance company if you want, just make sure you get more cash.

Thank you everyone for your advice.
I will do mark.

it will be easier for me to just make it a day rate average rather than adding mileage on.
would £40 a day be a start?
