No pottering, too busy being utterly embarrassed along with some firemen by an equivalent number of rugby players, best of three. There was no third match.

In our defence, some of the rugby players had cleats.

not surprised you are embarrassed it looks like they could do with lessons of how to pull. the anchor man is totally wrong in his stance should be strait legged and pull with his body not the arms and you don't wrap the rope like that, number 2 looks like he is having a sh** 3 4 and 5 are nearly right, 6 well no wonder he is covering his face only pulling with one hand. 7 is about right but needs more practice

Todays day off started well until I felt some lengths of timber were in the wrong place from my hedge removal, so 1 hour later I had removed a gate and fence, re positioned 3 of my carvings, shifted some rocks about and more importantly, the timber is still in the same place.

Just picked a big tree's worth of apples as a family activity, takes about three times as long but it's important for the kiddlywinks to take ownership of the process. I'll be taking them to be juiced later this week (the apples, not the children), I'll bottle 25 litres of whatever we get and brew the rest into cider.

But that isn't pottering, I hear you cry, that is targeted productivity!

True, the real pottering I'm now at is this: I'm tidying the good shed, which was overdue, and I find a bottle of wood glue that is still liquid, but the cap and applicator nozzle needs a good clean. In the process, I get all ten fingers covered in the stuff. No bother, I've been covered with worse. But now, having dried and hardened, I can peel it off in great big flakes, and... behold! It's taking the ingrained black threads of compost residues from the cracks and wrinkles on my hands that are a feature all summer long, leaving fresh pink skin underneath.

Wood glue deep cleanse. You'd pay 40 euro for this at a manicure salon.
