Cleaning gear - UK to Australia

Recommended Posts

Heading out to Melbourne to work for Mcleod end of September and looking for advice on how to get my gear through customs.

Planning on taking my full climbing set up: talon spikes, sequioa harness, poison ivy rope, zigzag, hitch climber, rope wrench, various carabiners etc as well as my helmet.

Planning on replacing my lanyard and boots just before I go and picking up a pair of cloggers upon arrival.

Any and all advice welcome. Thanks guys n gyals.

Do you have to clean it to a certain spec or something?

Yes, bio security is extremely strict. $180 fine taking our kids golf clubs in that didn’t meet there criteria.

A few years ago a mate of mine moved to Perth and took a container load of possessions with him including his car. This was cleaned extremely thoroughly by a specialist firm before being driven on poly sheeting into the container. He had certification provided that this had been done to the correct specifications. Not sure what other stuff he took and have lost touch so can’t ask him unfortunately

I'd use some Propellar, pack the data sheet with the kit for customs to see.

I think as long as the kit is clearly free from mud and organic matter (sawdust, leaves etc), particularly on your boots AND you've given it a scootch with an Arb specific disinfectant then there's not much more you can do?
