Me neither but I used it in sailing years ago as a quick and easy way to shorten a rope. It can also be used to isolate a damaged section of rope, which I had to do during a mountaineering incident a few years ago. Alpine butterfly can be used for the same purpose.

The farmer's knot/circus bowline that I've just learned to tie and will probably use for midline winch attachment is going to be a bugger to apply this rule to. What a horrible shape.
