3120xp 1989 no choke(!) model

For some reason my 3120 won’t start. 
 

It’s a 1989 model.  Normally you pump the primer to get fuel to carb as it doesn’t have a choke. 
was working last time I used it a year ago but can’t get it to pump the fuel through. 
Could it be an air lock?

 

Wondering if there is a way to get it to fire and pull fuel through ?

 

any thoughts very welcome.

may be worth a try with aerosol solvent (Easystart, carb cleaner, electrical contact cleaner) take spark plug out and spray some direct into cylinder, can also take air filter off and spray a bit into intake, failing that put a a carb kit in it

Not seen one of these for a while, this is the original 3120 before they de tuned it, the primer is pretty basic, assuming there is fuel in the carb it pulls from there into the bulb, then when you press the build it soaks the wick in the back of the filter housing, it then runs through the carb to create a rich mixture, unlike a normal saw once it fired you pressed the primer again until she sparked up, so has the wick gone solid and no longer porous, has the bulb cracked or split, are the hoses in good order, is the fuel filter in the tank blocked, pull the off the pressure side of the bulb an press the bulb, does fuel flow.

We converted most of them to a manual choke, worked far better.

Amazing. I’ve always preferred a squirt of mixed fuel with two stroke oil, to raw carb cleaner etc. Spray behind the air filter, pull over and repeat until you are sure fuel is getting the plug wet. No drama if you flood it.

 

otherwise check for the usual air leaks in rubber parts. It would be a real shame to damage it.

Cleaning , or , replacing the air filter would not go amiss ...

If he cleans it it probably fall to bits it was only an oiled foam filter on a plastic frame.

Moving over to a manual choke sounds interesting. It is quite a faff the primer setup. Presumably that would involve a new carb?
 

and yes the filter is definitely due a replacement 😆 

but not I think the problem with starting the saw.

Unfortunately it will require a replacement carb, choke pull and grommet, easy to do but the cost may now make it to expensive.

So pulled it apart today. Hoses look good and bulb looks good but no fuel coming through. Wick soaked up a little bit of fuel I put on perfectly well. 

I remembered that last time I used it I thought it would be a while before using so ran it dry for storage. Perhaps this is the cause of the issue as carb is empty of fuel. What do you think? Is there a way to get some fuel into the carb?
