I can't see how it really matters with that species being so easy to grow.

Seriously tho who the hell thought it was a good idea to do that with the sycamore trees.

The only good thing I can see coming from it is that loads of bunny huggers will now plant them everywhere and lots of work will be created...🫣

Most of the  general public & many conservation orgs seem to have a rabid irrational hate of sycamores yet theres mass hysteria over   sycamore gap.

 

So yeah wonder if it will change attitudes to probably  the most maligned of  tree species?

 

Iv'e always liked them as I dislike the people they piss off.

There was a chap I know of that went out planting them all g power line runs for future work....😂

i had my 80ft sycamore felled in 2009 i drilled the stump and put round up in the holes and salt all over the top it was still putting new shoots out 3 years later and i still get a few seedlings appearing in the garden now

There needs to be some sort of napalm invented to get rid of such stuff ....

I like them because they make good firewood.

Quick to grow, quick to split, quick to season, and quick, but not too quick to burn.

Yeah, great tree. Happy to have such a similar medium-term replacement for the ash trees growing increasingly rare out here on the west coast. They've been around for well over 1500 years, carved themselves a decent ecological nook, and contributed well enough since then.

Agree with all that, worked on loads back in my working in London days.

Any bit of waste ground seemed to get a decent size sycamore on it in a few years.

Only downside is the aphids in the late spring (if you’re climbing) otherwise a pleasure to deal with.
