Just take a stick in your harness when climbing and use a petrol saw with extra 2 stroke oil added to the mix....

Poke em with a stick then smoke em out....

You might be joking, but in case you aren't, please don't do that because they would be on you like a rash before you could blink.  If you were on the ground and that happened you could run, up a tree doesn't bear thinking about.  As part of the defence behaviour they poo while attacking, the motion of the wings vaporises the poo and if it gets in your eyes it will be painful for several hours.

Say a nest of them is spotted up a tree. Who but a loony is going to climb up there to catch them or do you blow the nest off with a 12 bore??

john..

Climb up.

Utilize the tree surgeon rights to....

33.112.(C.02)

"Ability to carry a sawn-off shotgun for close quarters squirrel termination and Aerial pest control working from a rope and harness " ....

then blast the buggers...

...and poke them with a stick 😁😁

john..

There’s a growing little industry of tree surgeons who climb in all the hazmat gear with chemicals to kill the nest.

I have had occasion to come off a job and get my local guy to arrive and kill the nest, then finish the tree the next day.

Sorry, but under no circumstances does 33.112.(C.02) grant any exemption that permits the ‘blasting’ of little mermaids.
