Would a 8.5t forestry winch be ok behind an old shape valtra, 6800? 
 

Mainly for pulling over rank ash edge trees and extracting timber from wet woodlands (seem to find the only ones in Essex)

Yes - the Tajfun are brilliant winches. We run ours on a little 90hp SAME and it’s a mega setup.
When pulling hard the torque through the pto can make it lift a wheel…

Get the powered outfeed and radio control would be my advise.

I would pick the Tajfun over the Krpan, mainly because Wilsons are now now the agents for Krpan and Kilworth are excellent.

Why not Wilsons, they have fitters all over England, tree company near me had problems with winch and fitter was there next day sorting it out.

Yes it will be fine.  Ram a 9.5t behind a valtra a95 which was the new shape 900 valmet and a 8.5 behind a 8100.

 

I personally prefer krpan mainly because of the folding butt plate which means if you need to winch in a sensitive area you can fold it up so it doesn't dig in. The little a series with a full set of front weights with the winch on a sheet of 18mm ply did a good job not making a mess.

Run ours on 6400 , perfect but just be careful as the 8.5 is a hell of a winch and would probably flip the tractor before it stopped pulling 😆

Thank you guys, gone for the 8.5t tajfun from kilworth, good price, if anyones got any hot tips on what not to do winching we’d be grateful. First time using one being in flat Essex

Don’t be shy with it - choke as many logs as you can together and drag them all in one pull! 
Don’t use the tractor handbrake and make sure your arms are free to drop whilst winching - some tractors lock them each time you turn the engine off etc and you need to let the winch pull itself into the ground as it loads up.
