Right to charge extra ?

Ha ha just finished the birch . Yes I was a tad upset yesterday . Any way that customer turned out to be a friendly guy . After both sleeping and dwelling on the subject . We turned up this morning to a smiling customer who then offered me £50 for the extra time which I accepted .Obviously on site yesterday the haggling over the extra dollars was all fun and jokes . Having seen all the trouble we went to yesterday to avoid damage to anything . He realised the extra work involved was indeed worth a slightly higher end fee .

Thanks for all your veiws / comments .

I also believe a price is a price and you should stick to your guns . Although when things change that affect the job site a new price should be agreed before work commences  . After all this was out of my control .

i always put on my quotes that the quote is subject to the site conditions on the day of viewing, also i tend to say that the quote is valid for 28 days

Yes a good tip . Thanks for sharing john:biggrin:

I,m going to add this as standard to my quotation format .

Oh Stevie I slipped up what can I say .A bit of banter on site yesterday explaining my veiws on the subject seemed to do the trick . Oh and cleaning chainsaw dust off gravel still sucks . Altough its tidy now and where both happy . And his missus gave us some battenburg cake lovely jubbly .

tea and cakes soothes even the most irrate arbs!

An increase to the price was fair and should have been discussed before job start IMO

Caveats are there for our protection and the clients clarification of situations, quotes relavent to current conditions is a good one, but limiting a quote to 28 days is not going to be suitable IMO, six months might be more appropriate? with a stipulation for site as found on quotation

Why do people need to put a time frame on their quotes?????

I think all this legal claptrap makes more trouble than it prevents.

I give almost no written quotes, just my word and my hand shake.

I often get people ringing months after a quote, the first thing they ask is "you quoted months ago, will your quote still stand??"

I can then decide if it does or not.

If something changes between quoting and doing the job, I discuss it before starting the job and come to a mutually acceptable agreement or walk.

If you did a written quote and then they change the access they have no legal right to make you do the job.

When you give a quote you are not entering into a contract, you are stating the price you will charge if you chose to do the job.

All our quotes stand for 12 months with the exception of Conifers and dangerous trees :001_smile:

Like Sky huck says most of our quotes are also verbal .

Irrate I know I may sound it but trust me I,m really chilled . Arbtalk just helps me let out a little steam .Oh and the punch bag does help but only cause it doesnt hit back

been a while since Ive felt the need to "take it out on a punchbag" never meant to suggest you was irrate about the situation, just that its always a big thing to have someone bother to make a cuppa when yuor working for them, some dont, many dont!

i think I will add a new caveat-: tea making ensures quality of effort and a lack of liquid refreshments invalidates any quality assurance herein!
