Thoughts are out to those guys. Brings a darkened reality of what risk we put our selfs through all for money.

So next time your boss says hurry up stick the finger to them lol.

Its a very lonley place high in a tree help just wont come quick enough. Its very very sad makes me wonder what price i and we all are putting on our own lifes.

Just dont take risks saws dont give second chances.

I think a tribute should be done at the next meet fair.

:icon14: i have personal experiance of self rescue after a cut that lacerated an artery. A cool head and a speedy decent saved my life. Imo any rescue by another climber that day would have been to retrieve my body:scared:

Exactly! Once up a tree it's up to you to keep on top of rope maintenance, keep the line straight ready to descend. Most importantly the ground staff to keep the ground under the tree clear and rope free for dropped branches. That poor man must have been injured so badly, no one not even himself could have done anything to change the situation.:dong:

Oh also always make sure the ground staff have a mobile and know the site address!

...I have read all postings with interest and must comment on the amazing camaraderie that you guys and gals show for each other. As I have said before you climbers worldwide are an amazing bunch, please all take extra care and God bless you.

Almost without exception, all here would know that with all the training and PPE in the world sad events like this are half a second way.

  • 1 year later...

I've been climbing trees with a chainsaw for 7 yrs now. When i first started i did a lot of reading on the internet of chainsaw accidents. I recomend this to anyone starting out in this field. A chainsaw should always be respected. Many peoples first accident with a chainsaw is their last. not because they are killed but because of the fear that follows and they leave the industry.

In seven yrs i've have met so many people with a chainsaw story and the scars they show me. sometimes they tell me it's why i'm doing the job and not them.

A guy here in margaret river is in an incident report after felling a big tree. He did everything right except for one thing. When the tree hit the ground the vibrations went through the roots of another big tree and a high dead piece fell out of the tree and killed him where he thought he was a safe. After reading this the chances of it happening to you are lessened.

checkout incident reports to learn what can go wrong. A lot of knowledge means less unexpected things will happen and it's the unexpected that will hurt you the most.

I cringe at watching youtube videos of people racing their saws through logs. This game is not a race. Understand what a kickback can do and always maintain the respect a chainsaw deserves.

Thanks for posting Steve, this is something that isn't always considered

Just been reading all the posts...this accident has moved me more than any other! Myself and the team would be more than willing to make a donation in Scotts memory. So, so sad!

I'll chuck a couple of quid in too. We're all only one step away from it. Can somebody on here a bit more tech-savvy than me sort a collection out?
