You'll be lucky to get a straight answer to that question. Wasn't even forthcoming with the reason why they had to disassemble the engine in the first place when asked. I suspect, because if it had a scored piston and cylinder, then the OP's question about the dealer allegedly swapping piston sizes over and what should they do about it would make the question irrelevant, and the OP would have had to buy a new pot and piston at cost to themselves anyway, so the fact it may have had a smaller diameter piston fitted wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference so the question was pointless as to what a dealer should do and how they should approach them- which is presumably why they were being evasive when asked.

Blimey.....

Forum banter aside.... did OP ever establish if there was any foul play at the dealer with an underhanded piston and cylinder swap before you bought the 'new' 291 ?

Freebies (replacement piston and discount on new 261) suggests there was....

Weird question, how many "internets" do you use... actually, don't bother, not really interested.

Got nowt to do with this topic anyway, just wanted to hear what the OP concluded about his 'new' saw and his Stihl dealer, trustworth or not ?

Maybe he has disappeared by now.

Just going to be gossipy here but a renowned farmer type, can do anything with anything, great interpersonal skills demonstrated, probably spends a lot at the dealers (farmer supplies stores).

A new part as a good will gesture, probably should make that profit back quick enough in keeping the sales and 20%? off a new saw next year, so the dealer gets another sale (making, what 5 to 10% now?).. plus extras ("So sir will be wanting a couple of chains too, I'll take 5% off each for you if you take them now, will you want a spare bar just in case just now too? lets take a little discount off that. Right and while you are in, you'd better get some 2 stroke oil, sorry I can't discount that.. right I'll put that through - you'll be picking them up in half an hour, grand"). Regardless of the honesty you don't stay in business giving stuff away for nothing or at a loss.

Dealer will be as trustworthy as any.
