It is very difficult to judge when to get the best spalting.  If you had left it another year it would have been more spalted, but may have had rot.

The more white patches / areas in spalting look great but....they can be too soft to get a good finish on so it is a difficult balance but that board above looks great so I would not risk spoiling it ...I spalt quite a lot myself for turning and I am saddened if it has gone too far , looks fine with some areas being natural beech coloured ...

I've already said **************** it and slabbed the lot. Listed on marketplace at £45 a board and got an enquiry already.

 

Time is money and so is firewood....
