do not hire your chipper out unless you know the end user. Last summer we were using a 6 inch, hired jenson over 12 hours a day for 3 months with 3 people feeding it and even though it was not abused it was ruined. There is reason that the cheapest tracked chipper you can hire is over £400 a week, £20,800 a year.

How did you manage to wreck it without abusing it?

If you do hire gear out just make sure that at the least they have it insured if it goes missing!

I only hire out to mates who I can trust.

A guy i used to work with asked my current boss if he would hire a chipper to him. My boss didnt know him and asked me what he was like, I said nice guy yeah you can trust him.....

When the chipper came back the stop bar was hanging off and it was blocked. It took us hours to unblock and the cost of parts to put stop bar back on.

We later found out it wasnt him who was using the chipper but his mate, I felt a right tit for recommending him as a reliable guy. Goes to show you cant always trust people!

I think its a nice way for someone to earn a few quid if there chipper has been well looked after and used properly for an hour or so of chipping. But thats IF it has been looked after and thats a HUGE risk when you compare 100 quid to the cost of buying a new chipper or the hassle of getting someone to pay repair costs.

just been asked tonight if i'd hire my jenson and van to a guy i used to work with who'd priced a job unseen , and come unstuck with it.

large sweet chestnut to remove.

i've told him yeah, but i'm feeding it, but as he's a mate, and in a fix, i'll do it for £200 for the day. he's said i'm too dear :confused1:

its gonna cost me £50 for fuel for the day, wear n tear on the truck n chipper

take it or leave it i think
